The Janka Hardness Test measures the capacity of wood to withold pressure. This is done by measuring the amount of force required to insert a 11.28 millimeter (.444 inches) diameter steel ball half its diameter deep into wood. Doing so creates a circuar indentation with an area of 100 quare millimeters. These particular data are expressed in pounds-force (lbf), and are side hardness data. This means that the testing was done on the surface of a plank, with the force exerted perpendicular to the grain.
This chart can be used as a guide for the hardness of woods. It is helpful in determining how hard it will be to either nail, staple, or saw the particular species of wood. It can also be used to estimate how easily a floor will withstand pressure causing dents and wear. The higher the rating, the harder, or more durable the wood will be. Browse our hardood flooring products and find the hardwood floor that's right for you.
Wood is a natural product featuring a natural variation in colour and knots that reflect the tree's age and history. To help consumers choose their floors, Extreme Finishing Systems goes above and beyond to make sure you get the right flooring for your needs.
Extreme Finishing Systems classifies wood in eight distinct grades based on selection criteria among the stictest in the industry.
Although grade names are similar from one manufacturer to the next, descriptions are not. Be careful and don't hesitate to compare apperance. Not everyone uses the same strict classification standards. Furthermore, the percentage of total production used for better grades is generally much higher elsewere in the industry, which affects overall apperance of the floor. You risk disappointment should the grades of other manufacturers fail to meet your expectations.
At GreenValley Flooring your project is our easel. Why deal with other manufacturers limited product selection when GreenValley flooring can custom match virtually any product color or style under the sun.
Have your mind set on a competitor's product? Bring the sample in! And our trained colorists will match it at our custom staining facility.
